Sioux City, IA| The top goalie in the USHL pitched his third shutout of the season with the Sioux City Musketeers beating Tri-City 2 to nothing at home Saturday.
Musketeer goalie Matiss Kivlenieks leads the league in goals against at 1.74 per game, leads the league in save percentage at 939, leads the league in saves at 925, and leads the league in wins at 23. He only needed 23 stops to pick up the victory in Saturday game.
Last night was also a reunion for some former Tri-City Storm players. Joey Matthews, Odeen Tufto, and Charlie Kelleher were traded to Sioux City last week and Carson Vance came over from the Storm earlier this season.
As for the scoring, Connor Ford scored the first goal at the 1:58 mark of the second period. Ford’s 7th goal of the season was assisted by Jacob Wilson and Matt Hellickson.
Sioux City’s second goal was scored by Sampo Ranta at the 2:48 mark of the 3rd period. He scored his 4th goal of the season with assists by Matthew Miller and Solag Bakich.
Sioux City is now 25-9-5-2 on the season. They are tied with Waterloo for first place in the west with a game in hand on the Black Hawks. Sioux City will play that game in hand Sunday when they travel to Sioux Falls for a 4 o’clock game with the Stampede. Fans can head to Buffalo Wild Wings for the Musketeers watch party.
