Well, not much needs to be said about tonight’s game. From start to finish the Musketeers absolutely dominated Team USA in this game pummeling the U-17s by a score of 8-1.
The Musketeers had 5 different players join in on the goal scoring party tonight as they outshot the National Development squad 48 to 15. Total shots for the weekend added up to a staggering 98-31 in favor of the Musketeers, so it’s the clear the safeties were off this weekend for the Musketeer snipers.
Charlie Kelleher started the scoring in the first at the 10:25 mark with assists from Sampo Ranta and Odeen Tufto. Eeli Tolvanen would then go on to score the next two goals in the first. He scored his 27th goal from Phillip Knies at the 12:29 mark. His 28th goal came from Kelleher and Joey Matthews at the 18:17 mark on the power play.
Team USA scored their lone goal 56 seconds into the second when Patrick Giles tracked the puck past Todd Scott with assists from Blade Jenkins and Jake Pivonka.
Sioux City would respond with three more goals in the 2nd. Odeen Tufto scored his 12th goal of the season set up by Tolvanen and Carson Vance. Brian Rigali scored his 7th goal of the season set up by Connor Mayer, and Carson Vance finished the scoring in the second with assists by Rigali and J.C. MacLean at the 14:47 mark
The scoring for Sioux City would continue into the third when Kelleher scored his 16th goal of the season with assists by Tolvanen and Vance at the 4:37 mark. Tufto would then go on to score his 13th goal of the season and second of the night with assists by Mayer and Jackson Keane.
The 8 goal explosion tonight was the most Sioux City scored on the season. The Musketeers are now 35-10-5-2 on the season. Sioux City holds a 3 point edge on Waterloo in the Western Conference and the overall standings in the league. Todd Scott stopped 14 shots on the night for his 2nd win of the season.
With the win tonight the Musketeers became the first team in the USHL this season to lock down there spot in the Clark Cup Playoffs. After missing out on the postseason last year the Musketeers appear hungry and ready to make a deep run in 2017
The Musketeers will again be heavily tested in the coming week when they host the Fargo Force in Sioux City on Tuesday March 21st, before welcoming the Waterloo Black Hawks to town for the final time this season on Friday March 24th . With playoff seeding on the line fans can certainly anticipate and tense and exciting matchup between these two rivals as the Musketeers seek to avenge there 6-1 loss at the hands of Waterloo just a week ago.
No matter what happens the Musketeers are back in the Clark Cup playoffs and based on the Musketeers strong performance all year this could truly be Our Time here in Sioux City.
