It took all five games but the Musketeers punched their ticket to the franchise's first Clark Cup Finals since 2005 with an an 8-3 demolition of the Waterloo Black Hawks Tuesday night at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City.
Sioux City set the tone early and often when Tarek Baker scored five minute into the game before Jacob Wilson made it a 2-0 Musketeer lead with 6:39 remaining in the opening period. Less than three minutes later, Micah Miller went coast-to-coast to give the Musketeers a 3-0 lead heading into the break.
Sioux City came out of the locker room and picked up right where they left off when Phillip Knies found the back of the net less than two minutes into the second period. Kristian Pospisil would make it 5-0 in favor the Musketeers with a goal of his own ten minutes later. Waterloo was able to answer back with two goals in the final four minutes of the period to cut the Musketeer lead to 5-2 heading into the second intermission.
Waterloo's Ben Copeland made it a two-goal game 1:51 into the third period before Odeen Tufto doubled the Musketeer lead at 6-3 with 6:17 remaining in the game. Brian Rigali and Eeli Tolvanen each scored in the final five minutes of the game to seal the victory for the Musketeers.
Goaltender Matiss Kivlenieks made 32 saves in the win for the Musketeers. Robbie Beydoun took the loss and recorded eight saves before being pulled in the second period. Peter Thome made 12 saves in relief of Beydoun.
With the win, the Musketeers advance to the best-of-five USHL Clark Cup Finals against the Eastern Conference Champion Chicago Steel. Games 1 and 2 will be in Sioux City Friday, May 12 and Saturday, May 13, respectively.
