SIOUX CITY, IA--The Musketeers took on the Green Bay Gamblers in the second of two games on Saturday night, and just like Friday night, Sioux City skated to a 4-2 victory.
The Musketeers, once again, got off to a hot start in this one, and just like last night, it was Martin Pospisil who would get the early tally for the Musketeers. Bauer Neudecker entered the zone down the middle, before he made a nice drop pass to Pospisil. The shot was good enough to beat Maksim Zhukov and give Sioux City the 1-0 lead, just 5 minutes into the game. Sioux City would continue to pressure the Gamblers and were rewarded with a couple powerplay chances in the period. Luckily for the Musketeers, Micah Miller would find the back of the net on the powerplay to give Sioux City a 2-0 lead in the 1st. Green Bay was unable to beat Jurusik in the period, and just like last night, the Musketeers would head into the locker room leading by 2.
Unlike last night, the Musketeers managed to keep the Gamblers off the board in the 2nd period, but there were still fireworks in the period. A little over halfway through a period, an innocent looking hit by a Musketeer player sparked a fire into Green Bay's Lean Bergmann, who proceeded to send a Sioux City player hard into the boards. A big scrum followed, with Cole Koepke stepping up for his teammates. At the end of it all, the Gamblers received a 5 minute major for cross checking and a game misconduct for Bergmann. In addition to a bloody nose, Koepke received a minor for roughing and cross checking on the play. The good news for #27 was that he would get a little payback in the 3rd period.
The play started with Calle Ehrnberg picking off a Green Bay pass in the neutral zone, before dumping back in deep. Green Bay tried to clear, but misfired, which resulted in the puck finding its way to Martin Pospisil's stick. Pospisil threw a pass towards the slot that was nearly picked off by Green Bay defenseman. Instead, the defenseman ended up setting up Koepke with a beautiful chance in the high slot. Koepke made them pay, firing a laser past Zhukov to put the Musketeers up by 3. Green Bay would not go down quietly, and put heavy pressure on the Musketeers the rest of the period. They were finally able to get one by Jurusik on the powerplay, to cut the deficit to two. Sioux City would regain the 3 goal lead a minute later on an empty net goal by Sampo Ranta, but Green Bay again cut the deficit to two with a late goal from Robert Herman. Green Bay wasn't able to complete the comeback however, and fell by a final score of 4-2.
Matt Jurusik put on another great performance, which Musketeer fans have become accustomed to, stopping 32 of 34 shots to secure his 16th win of the year.
