SIOUX CITY, IA -- The Sioux City Musketeers have acquired goaltender Avery Sturtz from the Maine Nordiques of the NAHL.
Sturtz, a 6-foot-1, 174 pound goaltender will join the Sioux City Musketeers this week as they head to Cranberry Township, PA for the 2019 DICK’S Sporting Goods USHL Fall Classic. Sturtz is expected to join the Musketeers for a few weeks before re-joining his team in Maine.
“Avery is a tremendous person outside the rink, and on the ice he has a poised presence about himself that will help our depth between the pipes as we break camp and head into the regular season,” Sioux City General Manager Andy Johnson said. “I recently saw Avery play at the NAHL Showcase and it was clear he has the ability to play goal at a high level and give his team a chance to win every time he steps on the ice.
“We’re excited to add a goaltender of Avery’s caliber to our room. We’ve dealt with some nagging injuries at the position in fall camp and Avery provides us another quality option in net as we head to Pittsburgh this week to open the season.”
Sturtz, a native of Cedar Rapids, IA, has spent the past three seasons with the Omaha AAA hockey club and before that played for the Iowa Wild AAA.
“I’d also like to send a major thank you to Maine Head Coach Nolan Howe, General Manager Eric Soltys and the entire Nordiques organization for lending Avery to us while we heal up between the pipes,” Johnson said. “The entire Maine staff handled this call up in a first-class manner and we can’t thank them enough.”
Tickets for the home opener against the Omaha Lancers are on sale now online at tysoncenter.com, the Tyson Events Center box office or by calling the Musketeers office at 712-252-2116.
