Musketeers Finish 1-1 Against Lincoln Homestand

By Bryce Griffin, 10/27/19, 5:45PM CDT

The Musketeers finished up their second double header weekend of the year this past Saturday against the Lincoln Stars in an action-packed couple of games.

The Musketeers started off the weekend on Friday with a 3-2 overtime win over the Stars as Lincoln started off the scoring just 3:55 into the game. The Musketeers then found some footing late as the Captain Ian Malcolmson wrapped in his first goal of the year on a rebound pass from Christian Jimenez while on the powerplay. Malcolmson then scored again but this side on the other end of a powerplay as the Musketeers were down 1 man. With only 9 seconds to go in the 1st period with another goal that looked very similar to the first, and what could’ve been Tommy Pasanen’s first goal of the year. With an uneventful 2nd period the Musketeers headed into the 3rd with a 2-1 lead. Lincoln pulled their goalie with about 3 minutes left in the regulation, and snuck one in on Ethan Haider with 12 seconds remaining. That would be enough for the Stars to head to overtime as Sam Stange won the game on an absolutely buried shot with 3:10 left in overtime. The Musketeers were able to hold the 2nd most dangerous team on powerplay’s to 0/4 on night one, as they got one themselves going ¼. The Musketeers outshot Lincoln 30-27. Each team spilt penalties with 4 a piece and 8 minutes total.

The Musketeers then headed into Saturday with Cross Check Cancer night on their minds as the ice was turned lavender and the Musketeers had special purple jerseys. The Musketeers started off the 1st period just like they did on Friday night. Lincoln scored first to get the only goal of the first period, but the Musketeers didn’t respond like they did the night before and went into the locker room down 0-1 after 1 period of play. Sioux City came out of the locker room hyped with players looking and sounding ready to go on the benches, but Lincoln killed the hype quickly after adding a 2nd goal to their stat book on the night and making it 2-0 headed into the final period of regulation. The Musketeers led all night on shots with 13 in the 1st compared to Lincoln’s 5, and 8 in the 2nd to the Stars 6. The Musketeers kept a lot of hot shots coming at the net with 8 more in the third to Lincoln’s 3. Lincoln delivered a 3rd goal to go up 3-0 on Sioux City, but then the Captain of the Musketeers Ian Malcolmson delivered his 2nd goal on the year and 2nd of the weekend, but in the end it wasn’t enough as Lincoln got an empty netter and went on to win 4-1.

The Musketeers go on the road next weekend for another doubleheader weekend in Green Bay on Friday, November 1st and Saturday, November 2nd against the Gamblers. Both games have puck drop set for 7:05pm.
