Weekend Preview: Lincoln

Matchup: This weekend’s home-and-home series will feature the third and fourth meetings of the season between the two squads. The Western Conference rivals split their first two meetings of the season, with each winning on the other’s home ice. Lincoln came to the Tyson Events Center on January 19 and skated away with a 6-3 victory before the Musketeers returned the favor on February 13 by a score of 3-1.

About the Stars: Lincoln enters the weekend sitting eighth place in the Western Conference with 21 points, eight points behind sixth-place Sioux City. The Stars have dropped four of their last five games, most recently suffering a pair of setbacks against in-state rivals Omaha and Tri City over the past weekend. Lincoln has scored a league-fewest 69 goals in 28 games this season while topping the USHL with 586 penalty minutes. The league trade deadline passed on Monday with the Stars participating in the most notable transaction, sending top player Zach Urdahl to Des Moines for defenseman Trevor Mitchell. Urdahl led the Stars in goals (14) and total points (22) prior to the trade. Forward James Stefan has been a bright spot for Lincoln since joining the lineup midseason, collecting six goals and five assists in 15 games. Goaltender Ryan Ouellette has a 3.39 goals against average and an .886 save percentage with one shutout through 26 games this season.
