Weekend Preview: Des Moines

Matchup: This weekend will feature the third and fourth meetings of the year between the two squads, with each winning away from home in the previous two matchups. The Musketeers blanked Des Moines 4-0 at Wells Fargo Arena on December 11 but the Buccaneers earned a 3-1 victory at the Tyson Events Center on February 6. This will be Sioux City’s first and only trip to Buccaneer Arena this season.

About the Buccaneers: Des Moines enters the weekend sitting fourth place in the Western Conference, six points behind first-place Fargo with three games in hand and seven points ahead of sixth-place Sioux City with two games in hand. The Buccaneers have allowed just 94 goals in 33 games this season, second-fewest in the USHL and rank in the top-three league-wide in both power play and penalty kill. Des Moines has bolstered their lineup with several midseason roster additions, most recently acquiring left-winger Zach Urdahl from Lincoln prior to the February 22 trade deadline. The University of Wisconsin commit has made an immediate impact with his new team, collecting seven points in his first three games as a Buccaneer. Goaltender Derek Mullahy has allowed 36 goals in 16 games this season, tied for second-fewest among qualified netminders.
