Sioux City, IA—The Musketeers announced Wednesday that Assistant Coach Taylor Ward has accepted a head coaching position with the Skipjacks Hockey Club in York, Pennsylvania meaning his time in Sioux City has come to an end.
Ward will be taking over the Skipjacks Junior Premier team that competes at the Junior A level in the United States Premier Hockey League (USPHL). Last season two Skipjacks players, Lucas Bahn and Clark Kerner, suited up for the Musketeers and Ward will no doubt look to produce more USHL ready talent in the coming years.
Coach Ward completed one full season as an Assistant Coach for the Musketeers under Head Coach Luke Strand. While he will certainly be missed, Coach Strand is happy for Ward and is glad he is getting a shot to be a head coach “We would like to thank Taylor for his contributions to Musketeer Nation. His personal impact with players will be missed. W We wish him well in the next step of his journey in becoming a head coach.
Ward is excited to get going with the Skipjacks but credits the Musketeers for helping him get to this point "I would like to thank the Sioux City Musketeers' staff and players. They are a first-class organization in the USHL. I wouldn't be in this position if it weren't for them, and I'll be a Musketeer for life."
Coach Strand will have some work to do to fill out his staff for the 2018-19 season but plenty of time remains between now and the start of the season on Friday, September 28th in Pittsburgh.
The Musketeers will open their season at home on October 20th against the Waterloo Black Hawks. Season tickets are on sale now, and single-game tickets will be available on October 1st. For more information or a full schedule head to Musketeershockey.com or call (712)252-2116.
